American Economic Association: ASSA Annual Meeting

En savoir plus sur cet événement.

At the annual meeting of the American Economic Association (ASSA 2026), held in January in Philadelphia, the GVCdtLab highlighted two scientific panel sessions organized by the International Trade and Finance Association (ITFA), in collaboration with CIRANO.

Both panels were moderated by Thierry Warin, Professor at HEC Montréal, CIRANO Fellow, and Principal Investigator of the GVCdtLab. They brought together leading international researchers and policy experts to examine how international trade, transport systems, and innovation are evolving amid rising geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.

The first panel, Tariff Shocks, Transport Frictions, and Diversification Strategies: Geospatial and Machine Learning Perspectives on Resilient International Trade, focused on supply-chain and trade resilience through approaches drawing on modeling, geospatial data, and machine learning. Discussions highlighted research on supply-chain resilience modeling, the use of spatial-temporal reinforcement learning applied to maritime transport resilience in the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence region, the identification of markets supporting trade diversification, and the analysis of regional economic interdependence. Several CIRANO members and collaborators contributed to this panel, including Igor Sadoune, CIRANO postdoctoral researcher, Aïchata Souleymane Koné, CIRANO research professional, and Molivann Panot, CIRANO project director.

The second panel, Geopolitical Tensions: Reshaping Global Trade and Innovation, examined the effects of geopolitical tensions and global rivalries on international trade and innovation dynamics. Discussions addressed issues related to tariffs and transshipment, the evolution of global value chains and trade perceptions, the international circulation of knowledge, and the role of global rivalries in shaping economic exchanges.

Through their participation in these panels, CIRANO and the GVCdtLab made a substantive contribution to international scientific debates on supply-chain resilience, the geopolitics of trade, and the use of data-driven approaches to inform public policy analysis.
