On April 21st, 2026, Thierry Warin (HEC Montréal and CIRANO. Principal Researcher GVCdtLab) discussed the growing strategic importance of North and West Africa for Canada’s trade diversification efforts. His presentation highlighted emerging economic opportunities, evolving trade patterns, and the role of resilient supply chains, infrastructure, and investment in strengthening commercial ties between Canada and African partners. He also addressed how data analytics and new economic modelling approaches can support evidence-based trade policy and identify opportunities for deeper economic cooperation between the regions.
